Bettie Page ist die Pin-up-Legende der fünfziger Jahre. Bekannt wurde zunächst als Playboy-Centerfold 1955, bevor sie mit dem Fetischfotografen und Filmemacher Irving Klaw zahlreiche Kurzfilme expliziten sexuellen Inhaltes drehte, die sie zu einer heute noch präsenten Ikone der Fetisch/SM-Szene machten.
Der Film BETTIE PAGE - DARK ANGEL des holländischen Exilamerikaners Nico B rekonstruiert mit einfachen aber höchst effektiven Mitteln die letzten drei Jahre dieser Frau in der frühen Fetischszene. In einzelnen Episoden werden die Umstände erzählt, unter denen die heute meist verlorenen Kurzfilme entstanden bzw. die Werke originalgetreu auf 16mm-Schwarzweiß-Material nachgestellt. Nachdem sie öffentlich bedroht worden war, unter staatlichen Verhören zu leiden hatte und von Klaw im Stich gelassen worden war, verschwand Bettie Page für immer von der Bildfläche. Auch in der Verbitterung, nie den Schritt zur Mainstream-Darstellerin geschafft zu haben...
Mit dem Fetischmodel Paige Richards drehte Nico B, dessen Experimentalfilm PIG mit Rozz Williams bereits selbst zum Kult geworden ist, dieses episodische Drama in glasklaren, farbeprächtigen Bildern, die die Atmosphäre der 1950er jahre in den USA wiederentstehen lassen. Dieser Stil entfernt sich von den rauhen Schwarzweißbildern von PIG und schließt an die zynischen Hollywoodfilme des Altmeisters Robert Aldrich an: GROSSE LÜGE LYLAH CLARE etwa.
Die vom Filmemacher selbst verlegte DVD wartet mit einigem Bonusmaterial auf und präsentiert den Film in technisch und ästhetisch ansprechendem Retrostil. Eine gelungene Veröffentlichung, die Fans von Bettie Page und der frühen Fetischfotografie ans Herz gelegt ist. Die 2006 erschienene Doppel-DVD enthält zusätzlich eine Disc, auf der wir die Hauptdarstellerin Paige Richards sehe, wie sie für Bett Page's Fotografin Bunny Yeager im Stil der Ikone posiert. Diese Aufnahmen und Interviews ergänzen den Film und zeugen von der Hingabe des projekts an die verehrte Ikone, ermüden aber streckenweise, da endlose Fotostrecken und nicht immer informative Interviews das Material des Hauptfilms mitunter doppeln. Immerhin kann man Paige Richards hier völlig nackt bewundern. Wer die Erstauflage nicht hat, sollte hier nun zugreifen.

In the period of 1951 until 1956 she appeared in 3 feature length burlesque
films (Striporama, Varietease, Teaserama) and several Exotic Dance films,
featured on this DVD.
These films are presented in the best possible way - which does not mean they are up to the usual DVD-standard. Reproduced are mainly videosources with some technical flaws throughout. But that should be no problem for the dedicated viewer for the special appeal of these littel films is still there. And you won't find any better versions anyway...

She established herself as one of America’s top ten glamour photographers throughout the 50's and 60's for Playboy and other magazines. This pictorial shows 100 of her most glamorous models, featuring Bettie Page, and includes photographs and original footage of Bunny with the girls behind the scenes. Bunny Yeager has continued to work on the beach and in her studio in Miami, Florida to this day.
